The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that the funds have been allocated evenly, with US$300,000 going to each of the four impacted countries: Grenada, Jamaica, Barbados, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This contribution is part of Rwanda's response to a call for solidarity made by the Commonwealth Secretary General to assist member states in the wake of the hurricane's devastation.

"In this regard, a total of US$1.2 million has been disbursed to Grenada, Jamaica, Barbados, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines," the Ministry said in a statement.

Rwanda, which became a member of the Commonwealth in 2009, continues to demonstrate its commitment to international solidarity and support for fellow member states.

Hurricane Beryl, a deadly Category 5 Atlantic hurricane, was the earliest-forming storm of such intensity on record, with winds exceeding 220 kilometers per hour. The hurricane caused widespread destruction across the Caribbean, the Yucatán Peninsula, and the Gulf Coast of the United States, displacing more than 160,000 people.

In Jamaica alone, the hurricane inflicted an estimated US$6.4 million in damages to crops and infrastructure. Approximately 1,876 structures, including homes and essential service facilities, were severely damaged across the affected regions.

Rwanda's assistance to the Caribbean follows its recent humanitarian efforts in Africa, where it donated 2,000 tons of maize to Zimbabwe and Zambia in response to severe drought conditions.

Rwanda has donated $1.2 million to Caribbean countries affected by Hurricane Beryl.
